Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk for frosting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  7. Roll up the dough tightly and slice it into 12 rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. For the frosting, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over rolls.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast.
  • For an extra touch, add nuts or raisins to the filling.
